Abstrakt		The article shows the development of health care in newborns and premature babies in Slovenia from 1954 - when the Centre for premature babies was established at Paediatric Clinic in Ljubljana - until present time. Further development of setting-up of intensive care wards and intensive therapy units in Ljubljana and Maribor is pointed out. The perinatal mortality rate was lowered to such point that these results, which were obtained by division of labor on three levels, modern equipment and knowledge improvement of the medical staff, surpass the results acquired in EU.
