Abstrakt     In Slovenia we have had Influenza surveillance since 1962. Slovenia joined the European Influenza Surveillance Scheme (EISS) in 1999. Our network includes 44 doctors (sentinel general practitioners, school doctors and paediatricians) from 9 Slovenian geographical regions, approximately three physicians in each geogaphical region. It therefore covers the entire population of Slovenia. We use RT-PCR techniques for detecting and typing influenza viruses. Isolation of the virus is performed on cell culture (MDCK, GMK) and occasionally on chicken eggs. For subtyping of influenza we use HAI methods. This year we are introducing the PCR subtyping protocol.
