Abstrakt		Birth is a complex phenomenon with physical, psychological, social, moral, economic and other dimensions. Different disciplines necessarily limit their study of birth to their own perspective and limit the choice of methods to those which are discipline specific and accepted. It is possible therefore to neglect wide areas of the phenomenon. In the research presented in the article, the perspectives of the women during pregnancy, childbirth and in the postpartum period were in focus. A combination of quantitative and qualitative methods was chosen in order to grasp both general characteristics of birth and subjective meaning of giving birth to women.
