Abstrakt     Background: The author presets the value and efficiency of a diagnostic method - electroencephalography during early developmental period. His aim is to prove that in spite of other modern techniques electroencephalogram (EEG) remains very powerful diagnostic and prognostic tool for neonatologists and paediatric neurologists. In the introduction some conditions are mentioned where diagnostic value of EEG remains very high and in majority Slovenian authors' contributions are cited. Conclusions: Despite the neuroimaging advance EEG still remains the gold standard in the diagnostic procedures of seizure disorders during early development. The EEG enables fast and accurate diagnosis of epilepsies and epileptic syndromes as well as of some other paroxysmal conditions during this vulnerable period of development. The EEG should be recorded early as proper treatment can hault further impairment/disability. However such a procedure should be performed in centres where quality and professional skills are granted.
