Abstrakt		The article describes the characteristics of bird migration and their position in time and space. It focuses on the territory of Slovenia and presents some exceptional phenomena connected with unusual appearances of birds. It often happens that birds bring on their bodies species that could never have arrived themselves. In the winter of 2005/2006, the transmission of avian flu H5N1 was particularly topical. At least theoretically, migratory bords can transmit it from any one place in the world to another, since there is no continent where birds cannot be and are not at least occasionally also visited by migratory birds. In practice, it is a great deal more likely that the virus was spread from Asia by infected poultry, by products from infected poultry or by tourists. Since avian flu is a serious illness for birds, the majority of experts consider that individuals that are infected are incapable of performing the demanding migration passage.
Izvleček		Članek opisuje značilnosti ptičjih selitev in njihovo umeščenost v prostor in čas. Govori o pojavih na ozemlju Slovenije in o nekaterih izjemnih pojavih, ki so povezani z nekaterimi nenavadnimi pojavi pri pticah. Velikokrat se zgodi, da ptice na svojih telesih iz tujih krajev prinesejo vrste, ki same tja ne bi nikoli prišle. V zimi 2005/06 je bil še posebej aktualen prenos virusa ptičje gripe H5N1. Vsaj teoretično ga lahko ptice selivke prenesejo kamor koli iz katerega koli dela Zemlje, saj je ni celine, kjer ptic ne bi bilo in je ne bi vsaj občasno obiskale tudi selivke. Praktično pa je veliko večja verjetnost, da se je virus iz Azije v Evropo razširil z okuženo perutnino, z izdelki iz okužene perutnine ali s turisti. Ker je za ptice ptičja gripa huda bolezen, večina strokovnjakov ocenjuje, da osebki, ki so okuženi, niso sposobni opraviti zahtevnih selitvenih poti.
