Abstrakt     Concomitant administration of digoxin and calcium antagonists results in increased plasma level of digoxin. One of the possible mechanisms of this interaction might be the influence of calcium antagonists upon enteral absorption of digoxin. To study this interaction two groups of experiments in guinea-pigs were carried out: in the first group the infiuence of calcium antagonists upon the rate of enteral absorption of digoxin was studied and in the second one the influence of calcium antagonists upon the transference of digoxin through the wall of the isolated everted small intestine. Pretreatment with either verapamil or diltiazem or nifedipine or nicardipine increased the minimal lethal dose of digoxin. Addition of either verapamil or diltiazem into the mucosal fluid of isolated everted small intestine decreased the transference of digoxin through the intestinal wall. Results of our experiments in both groups are similar and indicate the inhibition of digoxin enteral absorption under the influence of calcium antagonists.
