Abstrakt     Background: With retrospective trial study of delivery records, kept by the Gynecological clinic Ljubljana, we wanted to research the factors that influenced the growth of incidence of Cesarean Section deliveries (CS) in Maternity hospital in Ljubljana for the period of time from the years 1955 to 2005. The information was taken from untreated delivery records. In the introduction the study gives the historical review of CS in the world and in Ljubljana. Objective: The aim of the study was to find out what influenced the growth of CS in Maternity hospital Ljubljana and to ascertain the change of indicators respectively the categories of woman in labor, which and who had influenced the higher incidence of CS. Methods and material: The primary sources - delivery records from the Archive of the Gynecological clinic Ljubljana from the year 1955 to 2005 were used. The statistical analyses have been done. Results: We review 38.499 delivery records and stated 3.122 women, who had delivery with CS. In the year 1955 there was 2.5 % of CS, in the year 1965 4.95 % CS, in the year 1975 7.36 % CS, in the year 1985 7.54 % CS, in the year 1995 11.76 % CS and in the year 2005 15.74 % CS. In the first observed years there were more classical indications for the mothers good, later on the indications are more on child's side or combined. The percentage of cephalopelvic disproportion is constant. The percentage of multiple pregnancies is statistically significantly growing. Malpresentation, the commonest is breech presentation, are reasons for more and more elective CS. The percentage of elective CS between all CS statistically shows a significant growth.
