Abstrakt     Venous system of lower extremities is devided on deep and superficial venous system. The greater and Lesser saphenous veins are most important among superficial veins and femoral vein is most important among deep veins. Perforant veins connect both venous systems. Venous valves prevent the reflux of blood. Hydrostatic pressure in leg veins is so high that circulation in standing position is impossible without a muscle pump. When muscles contract blood is pushed towards heart. If venous valves are insufficient there is a blood reflux to distal veins. Consequently chronic venous insufficiency may occur. The most important pathologic changes are high venous pressure and impaired microcirculation.
