| Abstrakt | | Chronic venous insuficiency is a common disease, prevalence rises with age, obesity, female gender, standing working conditions. Secondary chronic venous insuficiency can appear after deep vein thrombosis. Symptoms significantly associated with varicose veins are discomfort, heaviness and iching in the legs. Worsening of symptoms after prolonged standing and relief after elevating the legs are typical. Pretibial swelling of the legs can be noticed. Skin changes can develop later, including inflamatory infiltrative changes, areas of atrophy, discoloration. Due to leg swelling and increased leak of proteins production of collagen is increased, the result being induration of skin and subcutaneus tissue called dermatoliposclerosis. Late stage of chronic venous insuficiency is presented by active or healed venous ulcer. Clinical examination is performed in the standing position of the patient. We assess localisation of the varicose veins, swelling of the legs and skin changes. We also assess arterial circulation of the legs.
