Abstrakt		Medicines play an important role in paediatrics, but their use is not without risk because of adverse drug reactions, prescription and administration errors, defects in quality or (self)poisoning. Defects in quality that can harm the patient are relatively rare nowadays. There is no drug without any adverse reaction, but early detection and adequate measures can prevent or mitigate serious consequences. Medication errors are relatively common, but only a few of these reach the patient. Prescription and administration errors are the most frequent. Some recommendations for safer prescribing are shown, including steps to be taken in the case of serious medication error.
