Abstrakt     BACKGROUND. Preterm delivery is the most sib ificant cause of perinatal morbidity and mortality. It is responsible for almost 70% of all perinatal deaths. In Slovenia the incidence of preterm delivery before 37. weeks of pregnancy is between 5 and 7%, one third being very preterm and extremely preterm delivery (delivery before 32nd and before 28th week of pregnancy, respectively), which are the most important causes of high perinatal mortality and morbidity. Despite substantial advances in perinatal care the incidence of preterm delivery has not changed. Much research was done about predicting and preventing preterm delivery. In 2002 Verdenik constructed a prediction model for predicting risk for preterm delivery (NMPP), based on almost 150 000 deliveries in Slovenia. The model correctly predicts the risk for preterm delivery. NMPP is a two-phase model. In the first phase prepregnancy risk factors and in the second phase the pregnancy risk factors for preterm delivery are determined. Both prepregnancy and pregnancy risk factors for preterm delivery are such, that we cannot change them (age, diabetes, education, marital status, fetal anomalies, haemorrhage in first trimester and similar). AIM. The aim of the research is to introduce additional examinations in pregnancy after NMPP, which would help us find risk factors for preterm delivery that we can change. Additional examinations would improve prediction of preterm delivery and perhaps reduce risk for very preterm delivery and extremely preterm delivery. HYPOTHESIS. Preterm delivery is a multifactor disease. If we introduce additional examinations in pregnancy after NMPP we can improve prediction of preterm delivery. METHODS. In the prospective research 150 pregnant women have participated till now. Fifty one of them already delivered, so we used only their data for analysis. (Abstract truncated at 2000 characters)
