Abstrakt		Specific allergen immunotherapy is a method of allergy treatment that involves the administration of specific allergens to suppress specific IgE, increase specific IgG, and reduce the clinical response in a patient on contact with the allergen. Specific allergen immunotherapy involves the administration of gradually increasing quantities of specific allergens to a patient until a dose is reached that is effective in reducing the severity of the disease on natural exposure. Specific allergen immunotherapy has been known since the 19th century in England. More and more trials have shown its safety and effectiveness in the treatment of stinging-insect hypersensitivity, allergic rhinitis or conjunctivitis and allergic asthma.
Izvleček		Specifična imunoterapija je način zdravljenja alergije, pri katerem z vnosom alergena v telo prekinemo tvorbo specifičnih protiteles IgE in povečamo tvorbo specifičnih protiteles IgG ter zmanjšamo klinično odzivnost bolnika ob stiku z alergenom. Specifična imunoterapija je pravzaprav postopno navajanje telesa na alergene. Na ta način se lahko zmanjša občutljivost na določene alergene in v določenih okoliščinah lahko doseže celo ozdravljenje. Začetki imunoterapije segajo že v konec 19. stoletja v Angliji. Od takrat pa vse več študij kaže, da je zelo učinkovita pri bolnikih z alergijskim rinitisom, konjunktivitisom, alergijsko astmo in alergijo na strupe kožokrilcev.
