Abstrakt     Among all alcohol psychoses, delirium tremens is the most frequent. It is the most often alcohol complication in persons who have been drinking for a long period and are more or less organically affected. The onset of delirium tremens is linked to certain trigger factors or is the consequence ofa sudden and complete cessation of drinking. The patient is confused, disoriented as to time, place and situation, restless. Because delirium tremens presents a direct hazard for the patient's life, the role of the nurse is extremly important. Delirious patient needs intensive care. Nurse should observe the patient and assess his psychophysical needs. Nutrition, bodily care and drug therapy require special care. The nurse should be especially alert to eventual complications.
