Abstrakt     An elastic resistance of closed bilayer membrane to changes in curvative is treated in terms of local and non-local bending contributions to the membrane elastic energy. The method for the measurement of the corespondening elastic moduli by tether formation from giant phospholipid vesicles is described. The theoretical analysis of the method reveals the importance of the non-local bending for the stability of the tether formation. For the lipid 1-stearoyl-2-olepyl-phosphatidylcholine containing smaller amounts of 1-palmitoyl-2-oleoyl-phosphatidylserine the mean value of the bending constant obtained is 1.2 x 10-19 J and an estimate for the mean value of the non-local bending modulus is 4 x 10-19 J.
