Abstrakt     Parasites which can be transmitted to human by water and can cause various diseases include certain protozoa and helminths. Waterborne infections are very frequent in tropical and subtropical countries, but they are rare in Slovenia. Direct examination of the patient's feces most often reveals the cysts of Criardia intestinalis or Blastocystis hominis, while on the other hand waterborne infections caused by the oocysts of Cryptosporidium spp. or microsporidium spores have been rare. Intestinal infections caused by the ova of Ascaris lumbricoides, Trichuris twichiura or Enterobius vermicularis have been rare. Serological tests show that tissue infections caused by oocysts of Toxoplasma gondii, or ova of Echinococcus spp., Toxocara spp. and Taenia solium are rather frequent in Slovenia. It is suggested that a low incidence of intestinal parasites can be attributed to generally better knowledge about intestinal parasites, the route of infection and its prevention, and to better personal hygiene. In order to decrease the frequency of tissue parasitic infections in Slovenia, greater attention should be paid to these parasites in the future.
