Abstrakt		Respiratory diaeases have already numbers of years been the commonest cause of children and youth to go to a doctor: In Slovenia pneumonias present aproximately only l per cent of reported diagnoses according to data from health-statistical annual. In five years period during l987 -199l, 65 children died of pneumonta (as a primary cause of death). In the article the main agents of pneumonia among children and youth are described briefly, together with their epidemiological characteristics. The artirle deals also with data concerning morbidity, hospitalization and mortality due to pneumonia among Slovenian children. At the end, the programme for the control of acute respiratory infection is described.
