Abstrakt		Among other things, family medicine doctors monitor and treat patients with lower urinary symptoms due to BPH, in whom PSA is lower than 3 ng/ml, the results of rectal prostate examination are not suspicious, the IPSS score is lower than 19, the urine is normal, and the creatinine levels are normal. Patients in whom PSA is high, the results of rectal prostate examination are suspicious, the IPSS score is high, and they have over 150 ml of residual urine following micturition, a urinary tract infection and elevated creatinine levels, should be referred to a urologist. The goal of diagnostic management of men with lower urinary tract symptoms due to BPH is to achieve early initiation of appropriate treatment in those patients who have a higher probability of disease progression.
