Abstrakt     Rheumatic diseases are chronic multisystem disorders, which present with clinical manifestarions of acute and chronic inflammation of the connective tissues of the musculoskeletal system, blood vessels and skin. Paediatric rheumatology is a clinical discipline that is concerned with inflammatory and noninflammatory processes in connective tissues andjoints in children. In the last decades, there have been significant advances in understanding the nature of inflammation, and of the cells and molecules that mediate it. Biological agents are a new group of drugs that reduce symptoms of inflammation, which can cause joint damage. They are designed to target specific components of the immune system, called cytokines, which play an important role in the disease process. Two of these cytokines, which contribute to inflammation, are tumor necrosis factor a and interleukin 1.
