Abstrakt		We analysed falls from heights in children with head injuries. Retrospectively we examined the medical records of children admitted to hospital between 1.1.2006 and 31.12.2006. We found 122 children, with an average age of 4.8 f 3.4 years (range 1 month - 12 years). There were 66 (54.1 %) boys and 56 (45.9 %) girls. The most common types of falls were from playing devices (21.3 %), chairs or sofas (15.6 %), tables, including changing tables (9.8 %), beds (8.2 %), bunks (8.2 %), buildings or constructions (11.5 %), and the arms of adults (4.9%). The mean height fallen was 126 cm t 88 cm (range 40 cm - 550 cm). Besides concussion and/or head contusion the most frequent injury was skull fracture (13.1 %). The average hospital stay was 1.8 t 2.1 days (range 1 day20 days). All the children survived. Head injuries after falls represent a significant proportion of hospitalisations. The clinical picture is mote important than the mechanism of injury and the height of the fall; hence observation is necessary following injury. It is essential to educate parents about the danger of falls in early childhood. Key words: falls from heights, children, head injury, treatment results.
