| Abstrakt | For elderly people, protecting and promoting masticatory function is essential to maintain good physical and social qualities of life. However, elderly populations often show high rates of edentulousness. Periodontal destruction and root caries are frequently experienced among elderly people. The possible role of periodontal infections as risk factors for systemic diseases such as diabetes has attracted special attention. Thus, more attention to preventive regimens in senior citizens is required. Geriatric dentistry must be integrated into existing concepts for the social and medical care of the elderly population. | |
