Abstrakt     In the period from February 1st, 1988 to May 1st, 1989, our group undertook the task of solving the hoof disease problems at the dairy farm Križovljan grad, which is owned by "Varaždinka", Varaždin, with a programme of therapeutic and preventive measures. During two systematic correction procedures, evaluation forms were used to record the hoof condition of each animal and further treatment was prescribed accordingly. All the animals with serious clinical pathological changes were moved to hospital and treated individually. A specific method for the treatment of pododermatitis circumscripta cases was developed. This method was used in the treatment of 23 animals during the first correction procedure and in 9 animals the second hoof correction procedure. All the animals were returned to the productive herd after 17-23 days. During the first round of treatment, operative therapy was used in the hyperplasio interdigitalis cases, which was followed by the hoof fixation method according to Paatsama. The most important prophylactic measures included exact recordkeeping of the herd's condition with the help of evaluation forms and five control sheets. The zoohygienic conditions were maximized, preventive disinfection of hooves in the barriers was introduced, promenades for animals were arranged and nutrition was optimalized with the help of feed ration analysis and biochemical blood and serum analyses performed on a population sample. Accurate completion of the set programme resulted in reduction in the replacement of the herd from 33.5 to 23.92 per cent . Emergency slaughter because of lameness symptoms was reduced from 15 to 3.05 per cent of the entire herd and emergency slaughter because of pododermatitis circumscripta from 4.5 to 0.87 of the productive herd on the farm. Milk production increased by 7.75 in one year, along with reduced nutrition costs due to a decrease in the raw protein content in feed rations from 19 to 16 percent.(trunc.)
