Abstrakt		In May-June the experiment was performed on 9 adult male Wistar strain rats, 3 of them pinealectomized, 3 sham pinealectomized and 3 intact as controls. One month after operation all animals were sacrificed. 6 micro m thick step serial sections of the thyroid gland were analysed stereologically. Significant differences were found in the epithelium volume density, thyroid gland activation index, volume density of the follicular cells and their nuclear-cytoplasmic ratio, volume density of parafollicular cells and their nuclear-cytoplasmic ratio, their average volume and average volume of the nuclei of the parafollicular cells are in congruence with the hypothesis of the stimulating effect of pinealectomy on the thyroid gland.
