Abstrakt | During the 23-year period (1968-90), cerebrospinal fluid specimens were cultured and 2784 bacterial strains were isolated. Our main interest was the group of 3 bacteria: S. pneumoniae, N. meningitidis and H. influenzae representing 27.91 per cent of all isolates. Our results demonstrate a period of high incidence of N. meningitidis infections during the years 1968-74. Sensitivity tests were performed by disc-diffusion method. Six antibiotics: penicillin (PEN), ampicillin (AMP), erythromycin (ERY), cephalothin (LOT), cetotaxime (CFX) and chloramphenicol (CAP) were tested in the period 1968-90. 147 H. influenzae strains were isolated and a gradually increasing incidence was detected during the last decade. H. influenzae was resistant in 24 per cent to AMP and to CAP in 3.4 per cent . No resistant strains to AMP were found among S. pneumoniaue and N. meningitidis strains, but 2.6 per cent and 1 per cent were resistant to CAP restpectively. During 1976-83 period, 55 per cent of H. influenzae strains resistant to different tested antibiotics were found, but in the last period (1984-90), only 12 per cent of resistant H. influenzae strains were detected. During last three years, the rate of beta- lactamase production among H. influenzae strains was 7.4 per cent . The sensitivily study of S. pneumoniae, N. meningitidis and H. influenzae indicates that in meningitis caused by these bacteria, the third generation cephalosporins are the antibiotics of choice. | |
