Abstrakt     The aim of the contribution is to present the importance of the Healthy cities project as one of the possible successful strategies for preserving and protecting the health of the population. In the Healthy cities project health is placed into the context of social project of the quality of life. The Healthy cities projects are one of the biggest investing projects into health of the population. Considering the beginnings of the development of national healthy cities network in Slovenia, the more important startingpoints of World Health Organization how to build up the vision of a healthy city - are exposed. The importance of political agreement, investing in health, intersectoral approach, including of the public, creating of supporting environments and education for health are stressed.
