Abstrakt | Tachycardia-induced left ventricular dysfunction was observed in eight patients. In three patients tachycardia was of ventricular and in five patients of supraventricular origin. In animal experiment seven dogs were paced in A00 and V00 mode at high rates. All animals developed signs of left ventricular dysfunction. The cardiomyopathy was reversible in humans as well as in dogs. No irreversible sequelae were noted. It seems that in humans long-lasting heart rate above 125 b.p.m. is critical for development of cardiomyopathy; ventricular tachycardia produces left ventricular dysfunction even at slower rates. | |
