Abstrakt		Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) is one of the most frequent men tal disorders. The development of powerful imaging, molecular-biological, biochemical and biophysical techniques has enabled new and more detailed insight into its neuroanatomical, neurochemical and neurobiological background. Here we discuss recent findings in this field with focus on the relationship between stress and MDD and on the role of neurotrophic support in the development and treatment of this disorder.
