Abstrakt		Background. Through allergic rhinitis is frequently found and has a characteristic clinical picture, its recognition is often difficult. For recognition of allergic rhinitis the several diagnostic procedures are suggested by different authors. Methods. Diagnostic procedures in 100 patients, transmitted during 1991 and 1992 from the outpatient department for otolaryngology to allergologist with the suspicion of allergic or vasomotor rhinitis were analysed. Results. Critical evaluation of the diagnostic value of the methods suggested led to the consideration that for diagnosis of allergic rhinitis the detailed case history, otolaryngologic examination, and allergologic skin testing is sufficient. According to the three methods in 68 per cent of patients the diagnosis for allergic rhinitis was established while in the others despite additional diagnostic methods the disease remained unclassified. Conclusions. A close collaboration between rhinologist and allergologist is emphasized in the treatment of patients with allergic rhinitis together with the importance of continuous joint follow-up of the patients and adjusting the diagnostic procedures and treatment to the patient.
