Abstrakt		Background. The hypertrophic scar and resulting contracture are the decisive factors bearing an influence on the functional and esthetic outcome of postburn rehabilitation. Methods. The use of external pressure is an acknowledged method for the modification of growth and structure of hypertrophic scars. Results. The authors report on the role and applicability of custom fitted pressure garments for longterm application of external pressure. Optimal functional and esthetic results of rehabilitation are presented in the case report of rehabilitation of a patient suffering from an 85 per cent body surface burn. Conclusions. Optimal results can be achieved by early, aggressive, longlasting and continued use of rehabilitation procedures as well as by active patient cooperation.
