Abstrakt | Background. This review paper summarises some of the knowledge of apoptosis, especially in the tumour tissues and notices on some dilemmas about programmed cell death. Methods and results. Apoptosis - programmed cell death - is an important way of cell dying not only in normal, but also in neoplastic tissue. Percent of the apoptotic cells increases during tumour treatment with some of the antineoplastic drugs. Basic event of the apoptotic process, which take place in the nucleus, is cleavage of the DNA into nucleosomal fragments. Gen bcl-2 and its protein product block programmed cell death. Morphological events in the apoptotic cells are the same in all cells irrespective of the stimulus which the apoptosis induces. New methods enable recognition of the apoptotic cells and are based on adding marked nucleotide on the end of the DNA fragments. Conclusions. Determination of the ratio between proliferate and apoptotic index will probably allowed easier announcement of the tumour prognosis. | |
