Abstrakt		Background. This review article brings modern knowledge in pathophysiology, pathogenesis, clinical manifestations, diagnostic procedures and therapy of septic shock in children. New definitions of sepsis, septic syndrome and septic shock are presented and explained. The role of endotoxin and mediators of inflammatory response in pathogenesis of the disease are dealt with. Complications in view of electrolyte metabolic, hormonal and haemodynamic disturbances are discussed. Clinical events in target organs are described in pre-shock, early and late septic shock. Most attention is given to the function of the cardiovascular system. Conclusions. Underlined is the importance of early diagnosis. As to the treatment, the use of exogenic and endogenic mediators of sepsis repressors is presented.
