Abstrakt     Backgrouond: Congnitive deficits in Parkinson's disease (PD) are well recognised, but the pathophysiological basis still remains uncertain. In our study auditory event-related potentials were used to confirm alterations in two groups of patients with idiopathic PD compared to healthy volunteers. Patients and methods: The first group consisted of 15 patients, aged from 52 to 80 years (mean 64.8 y.), with tremor as leading symptom. In the second group 10 patients, aged from 46 to 81 years (mean 64.4 y.), with akinetic - rigidic form of PD were included. Mean duration of PD in the former group was 8.4 years and 5.1 years in the second. Patients were classified according to Hoehn-Yahr scale (mean 2.9 in the tremor and 2.7 in the non-tremor group). The disability was assessed by Webster score - mean 16.1 and 14.4, respectively. Additionally, mini-mental test was performed to exclude the clinical picture of dementia; scores were never less than 27 points. Auditory event-related potentials were recorded using the "oddball" paradigm (20 per cent of rare high-pitched target tones with frequency of 2000 Hz). Electrodes were placed at pFz, Fz, Cz and Pz according to the International 10:20 System, reference electrode was linked to the ear. The latencies and amplitudes of waves N100, P200, N200 and P300 were recorded. Simultaneously, oculogram was noted. Results and conclusions: The recorded latencies of wave P300 in both patients groups were significantly longer (p less th. 0.05) than in the control group. Significant decline of amplitudes in non-tremor patients group was obtained. Comparing both patient groups no significant difference in latencies and amplitudes of wave P300 were found. The P300 latency was significantly associated with the Webster's degree of extrapyramidal involvenent and bradykinesis, while was not associated with the degree of tremor or muscle tone.
