Abstrakt     In the last years, epidural anaesthesia has become a standard procedure for the treatment of acute surgical pain and for the relief of various chronic pain syndromes. Despite its merits, many potential hazards have been described. Among the most dangerous complications is spinal epidural abscess. Described is a case of a 72-year old patient, who was treated for lung cancer. After surgery, the pain was getting progressively worse, and about a year ago he had had an epidural catheter inserted into the upper thoracic spine canal. Suddenly, weakness of lower extremities developed and progressed into paraplegia. Decompressive laminectomy failed to improve the neurological deficit. One month after the procedure, the patient passed away due to pneumonia and progression of lung cancer.
