Abstrakt | Experimental intratracheal infection of one-day old broilers proved that maternal antibodies partially inhibit pathological activity of IBV. Groups of chickens with maternal antibodies showed lower mortality rate (10.0 and 6.6 per cent) and less expressed infection symptoms than those without maternal antibodies. In this group mortality rate was 23.3 per cent. These differences were not determinated in the two groups of chickens in which statistically significant difference in the level of maternal antibodies (NI 2,91 or 2,0 HI-titer 5,50 or 4,40, ELISA titer 1240 or 993) was found. Our results also show that the presence of maternal antibodies after application of virus restrains the formation of humoral antibodies. Additionally, the maternal antibodies partially inhibit the development and titer of newly formed antibodies. No differences were found when comparing the activities of ciliary tracheal epithelium after experimental infection between the groups of chicks with maternal antibodies and the group without them. Virus application impeded ciliary activity from 80-100 per cent, irrespective of the presence of antibodies. The ciliary activity of the trachea is not an indicator of the actual protection of chickens against infection. | |
