Abstrakt     Introduction: A good integration of the elderly in their home environment provides a high-quality network that offers an older person the necessary support and prolongs independent living at home. Appropriate social relations within a family are a factor that provides the desired social security. Aim: The aim of the study was to identify the factors influencing social integration of the elderly in their home environment and the level of their social integration. Method: A quantitative method was used to ascertain the relative size of the phenomena studied. The data were collected through a questionnaire distributed among 104 elderly citizens of the larger community of Vi - Rudnik municipality. The respondents fulfilled the required criteria: age above 65, living in home environment and relatively good cognitive health. The data were collected by community nurses in December, 2009 during their preventive and curative home visits. Descriptive statistics was used to describe the sample of population and variables. The t-test was employed to compare the means of independent samples. Association analyses were performed to establish statistically significant correlation between individual variables. Spearman s technique was selected for calculation of a correlation coefficient for ordinal data. Results: Age (rS = 0,196, p = 0,046), mobility (rS = 0,335, p = 0,001), relations within the family (rS = 0,367, p = 0,000) and neighbour relations (rS = 0,351, p = 0,000) are statistically connected to loneliness. The correlation between the factors shows a statistically significant correlation between family relationships and frequency of visits to the elderly (rS = 0,239, p = 0,015) and the relations within the family and neighbor relations (rS = 0,297, p = 0,002).
