Abstrakt     Tooth preparation for inlay and onlay restorations usually extends through enamel into dentine. Current concepts in fixed prosthodontics emphasize the importance of preserving healthy hard and soft tissues. Aesthetic dental rehabilitation with indirect composite or ceramic restorations is based on adhesion of indirect restorations on the tooth. Adhesive cementation means the use of resin cement and treatment of the tooth surface with dental bonding systems, which have developed in the direction of increasing the bond strength to dentine and diminishing the number of components constituting the system. Current dental bonding systems are classified based on their effect on the smear layer, number of steps needed to achieve adhesion, and order in which they emerge on the market. In prosthodontic practice, two methods of tooth surface treatment with bonding systems have been used so far, which differ in the chronological order of clinical steps. In delayed dentine bonding, which is the older of the two techiques, the tooth surface is treated with the bonding system in the phase of cementation of restorations, whereas in immediate dentine bonding, tooth surface treatment with the bonding systems is done immediately after tooth preparation, before impression making. In this article, the advantages of immediate dentine bonding and the classification of contemporary dental bonding systems for composites are described.
