Abstrakt     Endometriosis is one of the most frequent diseases in women of reproductive age, affecting 10% to 15% of the female population. The disease takes three forms: peritoneal, ovarian and deep infiltrating endometriosis (DIE) with the lesions penetrating into the retroperitoneal space to a depth of more than 5 mm. GIE affects the bowel in 7% to 37%, most frequently the rectosigmoid colon, followed by the ileum, caecum and appendix. Among the diagnostic procedures available the highest sensitivity is achieved by a combination of transvaginal and endorectal ultrasound. Surgical treatment is the method of choice in symptomatic women. Surgical procedures, such as shaving, excision and low anterior resection depend on the size of the nodus and the depth of infiltration. Laparoscopy is an established treatment approach in most cases.
