Abstrakt		Warts are benign infectious epitheliomas induced by the human wart virus. The paper describes the most common cutaneous manifestations, which include plantar warts, caused by human papillomavirus 1, common warts, caused by human papillomaviruses 2,4 and 7, flat warts, which are induced mostly by human papillomavirus 4 or, sometimes, by human papillomaviruses 10, 28 and 9 and occur mostly in young individuals, and epidermodysplasia verruciformis, i.e. Lewandowski-Lutz disease, caused by several types of human papillomaviruses. Condylomata accuminata are veneral warts which involve the mucose of the external genital areas and are induced by human papillomaviruses 6 and 11, or 54. The fact that all types of human papillomaviruses have similar antigens and that the virus cannot be isolated from cell cultures, made the diagnosis of this infection rather difficult. The recently introduced DNA-DNA hybridization, however, makes it possible to differentiate various types of human papillomaviruses, responsible for a variety of clinical conditions. The incidence of human papillomaviruses infections, which occur worldwide, and affect all age groups, seems to be constantly increasing.
