Abstrakt     The purpose of this paper was to establish quantitative differences between different types of female basketball players in some essential morphological and motor dimensions. A sample of 57 players, aged 13 and 14 was devided into two subsamples with regard to playing position (guards and forwards). They were measured with three anthropometric and eight motor tests which, in our opinion measure the most important morphological and motor dimensions of young basketball players. The statistical package SPSS was used for data processing, canonical discriminant analysis and linear analysis of variance were applied. One discriminant function that statistically significantly discriminates guards and forwards, was isolated by the algorithm. As expected, the most discriminant has proved to be the measure of longitudinal dimension ATV - body height, among motor tests the following are the most discriminant: S20 - 20 meter run (speed strength of the legs), TSS - running with the changing of direction (agility), PSE - altering passes of the ball against the wall (velocity of passing), and VSS - dribbling in different directions (agility in dribbling). The results of the analysis of variance confirm the results of discriminant analysis and show that there exist statistically significant differences in the above mentioned tests between the guards and the forwards.
