Abstrakt		The development of a new drug is a collective work of experts of different scientific disciplines. It starts with an idea, usually based on recuirements in therapeutics. It is followed by synthesis of a variety of chemical substances of similar structures. Extensive pharmacological and toxicological screening selects a few chemical entities, only 100 pass the pharmacological screening, and among these only one will eventually become a successful drug. In Slovenia, the research of new drugs is organized in smaller groups of scientists with selected and, in general, not coordinated goals. Despite of this, the results of such smaller groups were successfully applied in the development of many generic drugs of our pharmaceutical companies (KRKA, LEK). And the new knowledge, so gained, will help their further development. The last part of the article describes the search, synthesis and biopharmaceutics of acyldipeptides with action on immune system.
