Abstrakt		A dentists role in preventive and interceptive orhodontics is important and demanding. His orthodontic activity is dependent on the extent of resposibility he is willing to undertake; this responsibility is conditioned above all by his knowledge. A dentist must be well aware of all the limitations, possibilities, achievments and orientations of orthodontics. As the primary carrier of preventive activities he is to include in the dental care education, instruction, and information, important from the orthodontic point of view. In the direct contact with patient/parents he should be able to detect anomaly, explain the problem and advise further interventions. Simple interceptive interventions of short duration should be planned and effected only in such cases when the results can be planned with certainty. Before an orthodontic treatment consultion of an orthodontist is recommanded.
