Abstrakt     Aim: The aim of this study was to observe the frequency and distribution of impacted teeth in orthodontic patients (excluding third molars). Material and methods: The retrospective study was conducted in the Orthodontic Department using panoramic radiographic examinations of 1253 patients, both male and female, with a mean age of 13 years and 5 months. The distribution of impacted teeth (excluding third molars) with respect to the type, the number, the location, treatment and gender were recorded. Results: Out of 1253 orthodontically treated patients 38 (3.03 %) were found to have impacted teeth. The male to female ratio was 1:2.17. The most frequently impacted tooth were the maxillary canines (68.75%), followed by the lower second premolars (10.42%). No incidence of first molar was found. Single tooth impactions (76.32%) were the most common, followed by 2 (21.05%) or 3 (2.63%) impactions in the same patient. Conclusion: By early detection of impacted teeth, alternative treatment modalities can be planned and performed with multidisciplinary team approach in order to establish an esthetic and functional dentition in the future and to minimize the complications of impacted teeth.
