Abstrakt     Species diversity and distribution of copepods in caves in the Western part of Thailand was investigated by collecting samples from 15 caves in Kanchanaburi and Ratchaburi provinces, during November 2009 and November 2010. Samples were collected by a plankton net with 60 ~m mesh size from stream, spring, and 3 types of water body which were categorized by the degree of persistence of water content. Six physical and chemical parameters of water were measured and 5 physical parameters of caves and water bodies were evaluated. Three species of Calanoida, 20 taxa of Cyclopoida and 13 taxa of Harpacticoida, all belonged to 20 genera in 5 fami1ies, were identified. Fierscyclops tanaosriensis Boonyanusith, Brancelj & Sanoamuang, 2013, Fierscyclops solaris Boonyanusith, Brancelj & Sanoamuang, 2013, Fierscyclops sp.3, Mesocyclops sp.!, Metacyclops sp.!, Metacyclops sp.2, Thermocyclops sp.1, and Siamocyclops sp. were considered as new cyclopoid species. In the same manner, Elaphoidella sp.!, Elaphoidella sp.2 Elaphoidella sp.3, Elaphoidella spA, Elaphoidella sp.5, Nitocrella sp., Parapseudoleptomesochra sp.and Spelaeocamptus sp. were considered as new harpacticoid species. Siamocyclops sp.and Spelaeocamptus sp. could be accommodated to new genus. Genera Fierscyclops, Nitocrella, Phyllognathopus, Parapseudoleptomesochra have been for the first time recorded in Thailand the number of cyclopoid and harpacticoid copepods in freshwater of Thailand has increased to 69 and 22 species, respectively. The genus Elaphoidella, with eight species were encountered, was the most diverse harpacticoid copepods, followed by the cyclopoid genera Mesocyclops (4 species), Thermocyclops (4 species), and Fierscyclops (3 species). Mesocyclops thermocyclopoides Harada, 1931 (10 caves), Thermocyclops crassus (Fischer, 1853) (8 caves) and Elaphoidella cf. bidens decorata (5 caves) were most widely distributed species in term of number colonized cave. The highest number of copepod fauna was observed in Kaeo Sawan Badan cave (17 species), cave in Yang Kao temple (10 species), Lawa cave 89 species), and Chom Pon cave (9 species) while the number of copepod species varied from 1-6 species in the others.
