Abstrakt     Avulsion of a permanent tooth is a dental emergency. The outcome of treatment is mainly affected by the time from avulsion until replantation and the environment in which the tooth was kept while being outside the oral cavity. An avulsed tooth can be further damaged with improper handling. It should be replanted and immobilized with a splint as soon as possible. In areplanted tooth with a closed apex, the necrotic pulp should be completely removed prior to removal of the splint, i.e. 7 to 10 days after replantation. If a tooth with an unformed root is replanted less than 60 minutes after avulsion, pulp revascularization is likely to occur. In such a tooth, the pulp is removed and endodontic treatment completed only if symptoms and/or signs of pulp necrosis are present. In teeth replanted more than 60 minutes after avulsion or sto red in nonphysiological conditions prior to replantation, periodontal ligament necrosis and subsequent development of ankylotic resorption are anticipated.
