Abstrakt     The incidence of central obesity related diabetes mellitus type 2 is rising. The risk for developing this illness can be reduced by healthy lifestyle, especially if it starts at a young age. Easily obtainable anthropometric parameters to identify critical adiposity could be useful for population screening. The present study has shown that body mass index (BMI) significantly correlates (p < 0.001) with waist circumference (WC), the increase of which may be indicative for the diagnosis of glucose metabolism disorders. BMI of 28 kg/m2 or higher indirectly indicates the WC of clinical importance. BMI is routinely calculated in sports and wellness centres as well outdoors, so it can be widely used to assess the risk for type 2 diabetes. We conclude that a kinesiologist has the possibility to identify and to direct individuals with increased probability of metabolic diseases using very basic anthropometric tools in daily practice
