Abstrakt     As is well known, operations undertaken for inguinal hernia repair are the most common elective surgical procedures in most countries. In the US, inguinal hernias represent around 65 % of all hernias, and between 500,000 and 750,000 hernia repairs are performed each year. Although for a long time, the Bassini repair was considered to be the gold standard for hernia repair, the new European Hernia Society guidelines suggest that mesh techniques should be used for both direct and indirect hernia repair in adults, and Lichtenstein's tension-free technique is the current method of choice for elective procedures. Although the Lichtenstein's hernioplasty is well tolerated by patients and has low rates of complications and recurrence, modifications are constantly being developed to improve patient comfort in terms of decreased postoperative pain and faster return to everyday activities. We herein present a variation of Lichtenstein's operation, in which we used a biological hemostatic mesh (Tachosil, Marlow, Nycomed, UK) for transversalis fascia reinforcement. The Tachosil is a collagen-fibrin sealant patch fabricated in two layers: the outer white sponge-like layer consists of equine collagen, and the inner yellow layer consists of coagulation factors, fibrinogen and thrombin, and riboflavin.
