Abstrakt | This study presents the findings of the first survey on fertility, contraception and abortion, conducted in 1989 among 1,117 residents (519 men, 598 women) of Slovenia, 15-44 years of age. The survey is part of an inter disciplinary research project on social/medical/demographic aspects of low fertility in Slovenia. The main objectives of the medical part of the survey were to elucidate teh reasons for negative events in reproductive behavior (e.g. abortion) and insufficient use of effective contraceptive methods. There was insufficient knowledge of contraceptive methods. This was demonstrated also by inadequate use effective contraception by women respondents and by the use of withdrawal. Sex and contraception education sources have not been efficiently used, especially by young males. Further studies are needed to elucidate the reasons for inadequate knowledge and practice of contraception, and to evaluate the reproductive behavior dynamics. | |
