Abstrakt     The shapes of phospholipid vesicles in an external electric field are studied theoreticlly by using a bilayer couple model of the phospholipid membrane. Because of the requirements for constant volume of the vesicle, constant membrane area and constant area difference of the two membrane leaflets, the shape changes induced by the field do not represent a simple elongation of the vesicle in the direction of the field. More complicated shapes are obtained which could be used, by comparing them to experimental data, for testing the validity of the bilayer couple model and for determination of its parameters.
