Abstrakt		According to the environmental acta, every discharge or spill of oil or a hazardous chemical should be cleaned up. This is particularly important for Slovenia which isa very small country with underground water under most of its surface. For that reason it is possible to use chemicals like dispersants and other mechanical means but it is questionable if the chemical or the way it is applied reduces or increases the effect of the discharge or spill. As we do not produce such chemicals, they are imported and their marketing is abusiness without any concern on their effects of the environment. The first part of the paper describes the information needed for the approval of any new product used for the REMEDIATION of oil or other hazardous chemicals spills. The emphasis is on the: general information about the chemical, toxicological and ecosystem toxicity data, chemical behaviour during the storage, special handling procedures, effectiveness, detection methods, burning products, discharge handling and work safety data. Depending on the data submitted the product may get a certificate for use in special described occasions. The second part of the article deals with requirements for the approved institutions which will issue a certificate for the chemical to be used for remediation.
