Abstrakt     The predictive value of endometrial thickness and morphology for the outcome of the IVF-ET procedure is still controversial. To evaluate these parameters a prospective study on 100 patients included in the IVF-ET programme was performed. Endometrial morphology and thickness were assessed (Bruel and Kjoer ultrasound, 7 MHz vaginal transducer) on the day of HCG administration. Ovarian stimulation was performed by a standard protocol. The endometrium was assessed according to: 1. endometrial thickness measured through the central longitudial axis of the uterine body, and 2. endometrial morphology, classified as: A - homogeneous and hyperechogenic, B - triple-line endometrium, and C - fluid-filled cavum. Of 100 patients (mean age 31.3+-4.51) treated in the IVF-ET programme 17 conceived. Endometrial pattern showed type B in 16 (94.1 percent) patients with different endometrial thickness: in 10 (58.8 percent) patients it was 9-10 mm, in 3 (17.7 percent) 6-8 mm, and in 3 (17.7 percent) patients 11-13 mm. Only one (5.9 percent) patient who conceived had the endometrial pattern A, 8 mm thick at the timeof HCG administration. None of the patients with the endometrial pattern C conceived. Of 83 patients who did not become pregnant (mean age 32.8+-4.15) the endometrial pattern B was found present in 74 (89.1 percent) patients with: endometrial thickness from 9-10 mm in 40 (48.2 percent) patients, 6-8 mm in 21 (25.3 percent) patients, and 11-13 mm in 13 (15.5 percent) patients. The endometrial pattern A was present in three (3.6 percent) patients: every one of them with a different endometrial thickness: 6 mm, 9 mm, and 12 mm respectively. The endometrial pattern C was registered in six (7.2 percent) patients with the endometrial thickness 9-10 mm in three (3.6 percent) patients, and 11-13 mm in further three (3.6 percent) patients.(trunc.)
