Abstrakt | Measurements of the shape changes of phospolipid vesicles, as a function of the applied electric field, are presented. Phospolipid vesicles were observed in alternating electric field by an optical microscope using phase contrast technique. Video signal from the samera attached to the microscope was digitized and the pictures were analyzed. Programs were developed to manipulate the diglitiized pictures to enhance contrast and to determine the contours of phospholipid vesicles. The measured deformations of phospolipid vesicles in electric field were found to be much smaller than expected from the variable volume bending energy calculations. | |
